Texas Mother Pleads Guilty to Killing Her 6-Year Old Son

November 6th, 2011

A Texas mother pleaded guilty Friday, to killing her 6-year old son in New Hampshire and disposing of his body in rural Maine.

Forty-two-year old Julianne McCrey pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of her son, Camden Hughes.  According to Susan Morrell, senior assistant attorney general, after her arrest,  McCrey had told police that she was suicidal and did not feel that anyone in her family was capable of raising her son and she did not want him to be turned over to a social service agency.  So, on May 14, 2011 at daybreak, she started chewing castor beans, believing that they would kill her,  but then stopped.  She then gave Camden a dose of Nyquil and waited an hour, then took all the pillows in their motel room  and placed them on the floor.  She put him face-down on the pillows, placed one hand over his mouth and proceeded to smother his face into the pillows.  She went onn to tell police that his arms and legs were flailing for several minutes and then he was still.  She placed him inside her truck, covered him with a green blanket and drove to a remote location to dispose of  his body.

McCrey was arrested at a Chelmsford, Massachusetts  rest stop on May 17, 2011.  A lawyer who represented McCrey at a court appearance in Massachusetts claims that he got the impression from McCrey, that her intent was to take her son’s life and then kill herself.
